General Norman Schwarzkopf, traveled to the Naples-Ft. Myers Chapter to preside over the Inaugural “Top Shot Challenge” a shooting competition to benefit the “Sportsmen Against Cancer” program. General Schwarzkopf presented the Awards and showed support to the Florida Law Enforcement Officers from Florida’s Gulf Coast who were invited to participate in the first annual invitational event. His visit was the Highlight of the day. Law Enforcement Officers, County Sheriff’s, Police Chief’s, FBI Agents, Fish and Game Officers and IRS-CI Agents "shot" their way into the hearts of many cancer patients. The Naples-Ft. Myers Chapter started the Sportsmen
Against Cancer program three years ago with the inspiration of a cancer patient whose doctor suggested an organic diet.

The Sportsmen Against Cancer program has now spread throughout Safari Club International. “The “TOP SHOT CHALLENGE” was held in the new Lee County Gun Range. The range has State of the Art Technology, a computer-controlled tactical target system with moving metal targets that can stage situational operations, designed for exclusive use of non-toxic ammunition and the viewing area is behind five-layers of ballistic glass.

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott, was Host of the event and gun range Captain Gene Sims, organized the handgun, rifle and shotgun competition. This Invitational event was achieved by the combined efforts of the Naples-Ft. Myers Chapter board members. It was sponsored by private individuals, SCI members and area businesses.

Local vendors; Rib City, Dunkin Donuts and Hooters, from Lee and Sarasota Counties pledged their support by donating food and beverages. Trophy Awards were donated by Sarasota Trophy. Artist prints were donated by Steve Whitlock and Dick Kramer. Participants in the “Top Shot Challenge,” received personalized achievement certificates and are looking forward to next years challenge to take home the remarkable three-foot lighted traveling trophy. The competition was won by the Sarasota Sheriff’s Department.

Five-thousand dollars was raised to support the “Sportsmen against Cancer” program. The Naples-Ft. Myers Chapter shares a vision to provide meat from nature’s resources to those in need worldwide.
