CITES 16th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties, Bangkok, Thailand
The countries that have adopted the CITES treaty meet for two weeks every two and a half to three years (a "conference of the parties" or "CoP") to make major decisions on increased or decreased restrictions on trade in various species. SCI Foundation can attend as a non-government organization with the right to speak as it is considered "competent in conservation" by the CITES authorities. SCI Foundation sends an expert delegation of staff and volunteers, including biologists and lawyers, to work with pro-sustainable use range states which are CITES parties to ensure that trade decisions are made on the basis of science. A great deal of work is done in the years between these CoPs on issues which are anticipated to arise at the next CoP. This work includes helping range states with their conservation initiatives, including the co-ordination and funding of the scientific studies needed to support sustainable hunting. SCI Foundation Online Conservation Auction
For the first time EVER, Safari Club International Foundation will be hosting an online auction to sell highly prized Alaska Governor’s Permits! There are two big game tags available. The first tag is an opportunity to hunt a Kenai Mountains Caribou (Barren Ground). The second Alaska tag is for the chance to hunt a free-ranging Plains Bison from the coveted Delta Bison Herd.
The auction will take place during summer 2013 for trips to follow THIS COMING 2013 HUNTING SEASON. Don’t miss this chance to bid for the hunt of a lifetime while contributing to conservation in the great state of Alaska!
SCI Foundation is proud to work with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game to offer these unique licenses to serious Hunter Conservationists. Funds generated will be used in the management of the respective species for the enjoyment of future generations. Regularly visit this website for more information.
