The future of hunting and wildlife conservation remains with our youth, but statistically, fewer and fewer youths are entering the hunting world. The Safari Club International Foundation Apprentice Hunter Program was established in 1992. The mission of the program is to help educate and train young people in a combination of outdoor skills. The activities include environmental education, wildlife management and respect and understanding of conservation. Hunter Education, ethics and safety are included in the program. Keys to successful program include proper curriculum, dedicated teaching staff and a proper hunting facility. SCIF endorsed two locations in 2007:

Cost for the program is $1,200 per participant (ages 11-15) with enrollment limited to 10 campers. One free registration is available to chapters that elect to reserve a full week for ten campers. (The 11th camper would be given a free registration reducing the per student charge.) Students fly into Kalamazoo, MI (Battle Creek International/AZO) . There are no airport pick up fees from the airport. Check with your airline for details on any unaccompanied minor fees. Students need to plan to arrive at either airport between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. and Wildlife Department; Learn practical camping, hunting and survival skills; Enjoy an overnight stay in the wilderness, with discussions on conservation history and ecological principals; Harvest one wildlife management exotic doe. The partnership with Indianhead and SCIF is designed to provide a mentored hunting experience for youth and women conducted by professional staff who are passionate about our hunting heritage. Campers will be instructed and tested on Hunter Safety and Responsibility, and be given opportunities to develop hunting and outdoor recreation skills.
Pre-requisite: The Texas Hunter Education Certification On-line Course must be taken and the results submitted with the application prior to arriving, if the applicant does not already possess one. *Advanced program includes certification on 4 wheeler training and the hunt of one exotic trophy. Exisiting hunter education certiication required. Hard skills will be completed at camp.The registration fee covers all camp fees except transportation to Del Rio Airport. Students will be met by Camp staff and driven to the ranch. Campers need to arrive in Del Rio on Continental Air arriving at 4:08 PM. Depart from the Del Rio airport at 6:30AM, Saturday.
